With its origins in intensive medicine, cerebral monitoring is becoming an important part of worldwide research efforts. Very large amounts of money have been invested in the last 10 years to better understand, treat and cure cerebral pathology for example by the European Brain Project, Wyss Center in Geneva, Google, and others. These efforts are aimed at building knowledge on the physiologic, pathologic, immunologic, cognitive aspects of the brain.
An increasing body of research shows that the oxygen supply and metabolism may be involved in several pathological processes. Despite this increasing and clear need for continuous monitoring of cerebral blood flow and oxygen metabolism, there have, until now, been no adequate tools in use in standard clinical practice. The Luciole platform provides the tools to effectively and selectively measure these processes.
